Your Future Self Will Thank You

Retirement planning made automatic, easy, and actually kind of awesome

Why Save Now?

Time is Your Secret Weapon

The earlier you save, the more your money grows — thanks to compound interest. Starting early can mean the difference between a comfortable retirement and worrying about bills.

💰

Future-You Has Bills

Let's give them a cushion (or a yacht, your choice). Every dollar you save today works harder for your future than dollars saved later.

📈

Compound Interest Magic

Your money earns money, which earns more money. Over decades, this compound effect can turn modest contributions into substantial wealth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I don't want to participate?
You can opt out anytime, but we don't recommend it! You'd be missing out on free money from Ridge's match. Even if you're paying off debt or have other financial priorities, contributing at least 6% ensures you get the full company match.
Can I change my contribution percentage later?
Absolutely! You can adjust your contribution percentage anytime through your Guideline account. Many employees start at 6% and gradually increase it with salary raises to maximize their savings without feeling the pinch.
What's the difference between Traditional and Roth contributions?
Traditional contributions reduce your current taxable income (you pay taxes when you withdraw in retirement), while Roth contributions are made with after-tax dollars but grow and can be withdrawn tax-free in retirement. Many financial advisors recommend Roth for younger employees who expect to be in higher tax brackets later.
What if I leave Ridge?
Your 401(k) is yours to keep! Since Ridge offers immediate vesting, all employer match contributions belong to you from day one. You can roll your account to your new employer's plan, keep it with Guideline, or roll it to an IRA.
How are my investments managed?
By default, your money goes into a target-date fund based on your expected retirement year. These funds automatically adjust the investment mix as you get closer to retirement, becoming more conservative over time. You can also choose from other investment options if you prefer more control.
Can I access my money before retirement?
Generally, 401(k) funds are meant for retirement and there are penalties for early withdrawal. However, there are some exceptions for hardships, and you may be able to take loans against your balance. It's best to think of this as long-term savings that you won't touch until retirement.
How much should I contribute beyond the 6% match?
Financial experts typically recommend saving 10-15% of your income for retirement. Since Ridge matches 6%, contributing 10-15% yourself would put you at 16-21% total savings rate, which puts you on track for a comfortable retirement. Start with the 6% match, then increase gradually as your salary grows.
Are there any fees?
Ridge covers the administrative fees for the 401(k) plan. The investment funds have their own expense ratios (typically very low with index funds), but there are no additional account maintenance fees charged to employees.
