YOUR AMAZING BRAIN!

Did you know that the brain only weighs 2 percent of your total body weight but uses more than 20 percent of your energy? It needs this energy to keep the 100 billion neurons inside it working. Neurons are brain cells that carry the signals we need for thoughts, memories, and feelings.

In addition, neurons are vital to our body functions. Neurons connect the different parts of the brain, which include the brain stem, cerebellum, and cerebrum, by transmitting signals. The brain stem controls processes that we need to live, such as breathing and heart rhythm. The cerebellum controls our balance and our muscles. The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. It is in charge of complicated activities like thought, speech, learning, and emotions.

Your brain affects all aspects of your life, so it is important to take care of it. You can do this by exercising, eating healthily, and getting enough sleep. You can also stimulate it by reading, writing, playing cards, or doing crosswords.
